If we assume that a good jazz album is like a David Lynch film - complex but interesting enough to keep your interest – then Strobes is the Mulholland Drive of jazz. The band’s debut album ‘Brokespeak’ instantly set them apart, with their exceptional sound that is influenced by Squarepusher, Boards Of Canada and Tigran Hamasyan.
The masked pianist’s third album again demonstrates his ability to translate life’s entire emotional rollercoaster into music. With an enormous elegance, he alternates heavy tracks with easily digestible melodies. He is often compared to Nils Frahm and Bonaparte. It is even rumoured that one of these names is the face behind that mysterious mask.
You know Tom Rogerson as keyboard player of Three Trapped Tigers, according to Brian Eno: 'A band at the cutting edge of contemporary music.' The pianist writes equally fascinating tracks under his own name, ones that can’t possibly leave you unmoved. The British composer worked with Brian Eno for his solo debut ‘Failing Shore’. That resulted in a calm, organic sound, in which Rogerson combines his improvisations and loop-based music.
