Belgium’s most adventurous, hybrid, experimental combo launches new album
Admittance is free of charge according to the principle of ‘first come, first served.’
RAZEN has made sure it was noticed ever since its debut in 2010. On the one hand, by their preference for the biting timbres of the bagpipes, monochord and shawm. On the other, for their improvisations that expose the link between ethnic ritual music & contemporary classical and between the psychedelic jam culture of the’60s & Old Music.
With adventurousness and audacity high on the agenda, in recent years the band has continued to dig further into this strange, hybrid crossing.
Originally consisting of the duo Brecht Ameel and Kim Delcour, RAZEN evolved into a larger, semi-permanent collective in which Pieter Lenaerts (contrabass & sarangi), Paul Garriau (hurdy-gurdy), David Poltrock (ondes-Martenot & synths) and Suchet Malhotra (tabla) also give colour to the story.
Their performance in Huis23 is the release concert of their new album 'The Xvoto Reels' that appears that day on three:four records.
