Moonlight received her name from her stepfather. She had just been born and her mother had already passed away. The Haitian grew up in a very large family and church community. She also discovered voodoo early on and the power that it exudes. And then there was music too, of course, but it was only after her move to France that her unique approach became clear: an immense voice in an intense body, backed by a solid rock-band!
For fans of Charlotte Adigéry, Ifriqiyya Electrique, Mavis Staples, Les Filles de Illighadad...
In the press Bij haar inslaande passage op een vorige Womex wereldmuziekbeurs: 'Voodoo blues, Haitian rock and Creole roll; whatever it gets called, Haitian exile in France Moonlight Benjamin’s latest project is a riff-heavy, groove-laden sonic concoction built on the tension between her powerful voice and saturated electric guitars provided by Matthis Pascaud of French experimental thrash-rock group Square One.'
