Essential & enjoyable global neo-soul (with a Yoruba basis)
The superb singing twin sisters Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé have Cuban-French crossover roots and, ever since their debut CD from 2015, we can no longer imagine them away from the global stage (nor the media, due to: sassy, photogenic, unique...) Have now completed a successor 'Ash' on the excellent XL label.
For fans of Anga Diaz (as they will always be 'the daughters of ' the Buena Vista Social Club percussionist), Kamasi Washington, Mala Rodriguez, Chilly Gonzales, Meshell Ndegeocello (who all collaborated on 'Ash')... Apparently, even Beyoncé is a fan!
In the press ‘On their second album, the French-Cuban twins Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Díaz make gorgeous, genre-agnostic meditations on resilience and mindful resistance. 8,5/10’ - Pitchfork
‘Deze plaat is een klap in je gezicht, gevolgd door een dikke knuffel.’ - HUMO
'Niet preken, wel swingen: de kleine revolutie van Ibeyi...De liedjes graven dieper dan voorheen.' – De Morgen
AB fun fact Their first time at AB was in March 2015: in a full club, with Le Colisée as equally exquisite support-act.
Fun fact About the new single 'Me Voy': 'We needed to sing in Spanish to set a sensual tone for this song. When women feel sensual, not only is it sexy, but also powerful.'
