Graffiti pioneer reveals link between graffiti and Hip Hop!
“Of ik nu schilder, rapnummers schrijf, zing, acteer of kook: altijd is het een creatieve expressie van mezelf. Van de mens die ik ben. Als het maar spontaan is.” Chuck ‘Koor’ Hargrove was there at the birth of graffiti and Hip Hop culture in The Bronx, NYC, in the mid 70s. At the age of thirteen he got involved with tag art and gradually worked his way up to the level of graffiti-icons and friends like Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The walls of the The Bronx were his gallery…
His first solo exhibition took place in Brussels (1985) and it was love at first sight. A few years later, Hargrove settled himself in our capital and further established his career as graffiti artist, with detours into acting and advertising work.
