Turkish rap star back in Belgium after a sold out European tour!
After the overwhelming and completely sold out European tour in 2019, Ezhel is coming back to Europe! Last year, he made a successful passage at Het Depot and on April 1st, the Turkish rap star will halt at the Ancienne Belgique.
Domestic rap developed itself to one of the most popular music genres in Turkey. Ezhel is without a doubt the spearhead of the young movement. His debut album ‘Muptezhel’ (English: worthless) is difficult to pin into one genre. He describes his music as a mixture between Anatolian UrbanCore, HipHop, Reggae-Dub and Trap. His lyrics address the daily life of young people in his hometown Ankara and he even strikes some socially critical notes.
The Turkish rap star made international headlines when he was arrested in May 2018 for allegedly glorifying drugs, which can be penalized up to 10 years in Turkey. Thousands of young people demanded the release of Ezhel – the hashtag #freeezhel was the most shared hashtag in Turkey at that time. After a month in custody, Ezhel was released after only a couple of minutes at court.
‘Şehrimin Tadı’ (English: taste of my town) is exemplary for Ezhel’s sound: beat driven, rich bass paired with reflective lyrics. The video has over 62 million views on YouTube. The current most successful artist of Turkey already put a spell on Europe’s diaspora and beyond that.
On April 1st, there will be another chance to get an impression of Ezhel’s skills! Tickets are on sale as from Friday January 17th at 10 am via greenhousetalent.be.
