They’re rare, those moments in which you’re sent head over heels by an unknown band on a cold winter’s night in a backroom of an obscure café. It was Eurosonic 2015, in Groningen, and the band was called Die Nerven. The German trio tensely and scathingly shot their nihilism-laced post-punk through the dilapidated speakers and unhesitatingly spat the sinister German lyrics straight in your face.
Their recent release ‘Out’ (Glitterhouse Records – Oct ’15), hailed by weekly Der Spiegel as “one of the best and most relevant German-speaking albums of this decade”, is fizzing with as much energy, attitude and oppressive songs as forerunner ‘Fun’. In short, urgent post-punk/noise-rock from Stuttgart that really gets under your skin live.
They describe their music as lo-fi psychedelic pop, are influenced by Beethoven, Winnetou, Truman Capote and David Lynch… and, just like Die Nerven, they hail from Stuttgart. Their latest longplayer ‘Neo Romantic’ (Treibender Teppich Records – April ‘15) was released on limited edition vinyl and smells like the blood, sweat and tears of David Bowie meets Joy Division meets NEU! meets Suicide.
Young and dark electronic duo that seeks the border between krautrock, post-punk, indie- and garage-rock… and will be presenting a self-titled debut EP on 6 November ’15. Their first single ‘Similar Familiar’ will be flanked by a remarkable black & white video that perfectly interprets the dark vibe of the song. Worked their way into the limelight in a big way at the Reeperbahn Showcase Festival ’15 in Hamburg and we were clearly not the only ones to get all warm and tingly from Lea Porcelain that night… “Lea Porcelain have a dark, twisted yet oddly enticing sound.” (CLASH Magazine)
