For Klaxons, Friendly Fires and Yeasayer fans
The Delphic story starts in Ghent, at the legendary R&S Records (Aphex Twin, Ken Ishii, James Blake) where the Mancunians release their first single ‘Counterparts’ in 2009. Following a scramble for labels the quartet finds a home with Polydor (renowned for White Lies, Crystal Castles, Ellie Goulding), after which the exciting, electro-rock-speckled debut album ‘Acolyte’ appears. The gentlemen, ranked third in the influential BBC Sound of 2010 list, after Ellie Goulding and Marina and the Diamonds, meet all the high expectations and perform brilliantly live, in Belgium too. “Delphic created a euphoric party. A band with a future,” writes Enola, following their appearance at The Rotonde Botanique and Rock Werchter 2010. Their danceable mix of indie rock and electro also wins over the Humo critic, “This morning Delphic opened the Marquee in grand style, with particularly amiable electro rock” and the De Morgen reviewer, “Delphic overwhelmed and hit like a splinter bomb”.
In last year’s ‘Good Life’ we heard Delphic’s anthem in honour of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, a foretaste of the band’s slightly new musical path. And the first single ‘Baiya’, from the new ‘Collections’ album, confirms the - albeit modest - switch in style. Not so much indie rock then, but more electropop hooked to 80s synths & beats with a much more bombastic production, the work of producer duo Tim Goldsworthy (U.N.K.L.E, The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem) and Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Bombay Bicycle Club).
Delphic’s second album is due for release on 28 January, so get ready to wear out your soles on the dance floor!
