Senegal yela-reggae, world-blues superstar
A brilliant Senegalese great, finally back, with a new CD out via Island.
His latest, Television, already dates from 2009 but was certainly a jewel of refinement and playfulness.
Either way, Baaba very easily integrates more modern tools or instruments with classic West African ones like the kora.
His repertoire is then, at times, cheerful yela (alias a distant precursor to reggae?) But there is just as much room for a more meditative oeuvre. Above all, there is always that phenomenal voice.
Now back in AB where he already indulged countless fans in 2001 (and vice-versa.)
