Tangram Records has been considered one of the most exciting underground labels in Belgium for a few years now. The independent collective encompassing Up High Collective and Mophito (the impressive Joris Vaes from Leuven) gets a hold of the best jazzy electronic-soul-laptopbeat acts around, in- and outside our national borders.
Be prepared for an evening full of crazy clicks & beats, sultry dance moves, and discover the music of tomorrow!
Drum ‘n’ bass. The term has almost sounded like a dirty word for the last few years. But London trio Ivy Lab – that consists of Sabre, Stray and Halogenix – brings us back to the roots of the genre and proves that drum ‘n’ bass in the year 2015 is still alive & kicking, and can sound pretty damn fresh. Most recent EP ‘Twenty Questions’ is their most ambitious and is bursting with innovative D&B interspersed with future beats, half time grooves and impressive remixes by Sam Binga & El Train. The only one of the night’s acts that doesn’t reside on Tangram and so was invited by the Tangram gang to come light the fuse.
Blend up XXYYXX, Hudson Mohawke, Lapalux & eclectic musical tastes and there you have it: Up High Collective. In 2010, (together with Delv!s) they managed to score internationally with debut single ‘Blend’ and the guys from Leuven have been heading for the heavens ever since. The original soulful sound has been largely traded in for clubby UK-garage-hiphop beats, which can only be a good thing for those present on the dancefloor!
LTGL (= Living The Good Life) plays you off on a wild goose chase with his future-hiphop – there’s no better game music! The man from Hasselt is up there with any of the greats of the genre, such as Flume, The Gaslamp Killer and Cashmere Cat. Of course, your coolness factor takes on unseen proportions with a song that bears the title ‘Hannah Montana’. Young talent in the spotlight!
The chill-wavers will be the ones getting the most out of this evening, with our soulful northern neighbours from Day Fly. Even on a cold winter night, you’re sure to get all deliciously warm from their Jamie Woon-ish vibes. Be sure to check out the Soundcloud of these Amsterdammers, as you won’t soon find any videos on YouTube. Recent addition to Tangram Records!
Behind Le Motel you will find three young guys from Brussels with an own electronic presence. Are you a (future-)jazz fan, drum ‘n’ bass freak or IDM-er? Le Motel is tha’ shit and is guaranteed to get you high. Launching album ‘Mellow’ on 21/10, a collaboration with their labelmates and fellow Brussels inhabitants: Yellowstraps. Be quick to book your trip to their free-floating musical universe! One thing is sure: it feels damn good to hang out in this Motel!
