Vibrant, no overdubs jazz, global, funk fusion!?

The very first jazz album was released 100 years ago: The Original Dixieland Jass Band with ‘Livery Stable Blues’. That’s why AB will be paying extra attention to jazz for a year. From contemporary classics to musical troublemakers who are inspired by jazz, to the latest incredibly headstrong jazz generation from local soil.

Snarky Puppy is a very frisky, capable jazz-fusion collective with Brooklyn NYC USA as base of operations. A fixed core of 13 people at the moment, and already welcome here in the ABClub, the Jazz Marathon, then a full and vibrating ABFlex in October 2015.

They already have 10 CDs to their name, just recently we had Family Dinner Vol 2: yet another 'wildcard' collaboration with jazz musicians, of course, but also with David Crosby, Susana Baca, Salif Keita, Laura Mvula... !

Now we also have the Culcha Vulcha CD, not recorded live with cameras in the studio this time, but more serenely 'in nature’ and yet still with possible overdubs.

Always unpredictably playful (like a young puppy), and these remain the most accurate descriptors live: 'eclectic... unclassifiable...free-wheeling... wide -ranging...'
