vocal art merged with analogue electronics & tape loops
UPDATE: AB closes its doors until the 5th of April as a result of COVID-19. Therefore, this concert will be suspended and if possible postponed to a new date. Thank you for your understanding.
The duo Amirtha Kidambi (on vocals) and Lea Bertucci (not on sax this time but with tape(loops) and electronica) explores new sonic possibilities by means of improvisation, vocal manipulation and deformation. We know Bertucci mainly for her saxophone compositions and she has already appeared on stage in AB a number of times in the past (Salon & BRDCST). In 2019, her album ‘Resonant Field’ was amongst the The New York Times’ Top 10 Best Jazz Albums.
Experimental vocalist Amirtha Kidambi is currently less well known in Europe. She is a composer and a bandleader, of the Elder Ones quartet and the Lines Of Light quartet. Kidambi has released work with and collaborated with the likes of Robert Ashley, Darius Jones, Ben Vida and Tyondai Braxton.
Their debut album 'Phase Eclipse' was released in 2019 on Astral Spirits. It yielded the duo an extremely favourable review in The Wire of December 2019.
