Haunting transcedelic visions on folk music for the 21st Century
Antti Tolvi
Kraak loves Finns: they are quiet, rather otherworldly and generally capable musicians. Aside from being a gigantic clichĂŠ, it is a fitting description for composer Antti Tolvi. He is known for his collaborations with the likes of Lau Nau, Keijut and Rauhan Orkesteri but more especially for his solo work, which covers a broad range of jazz, piano-minimalism and electronic drones. His compositions have that typical Finnish touch and are remarkable for their meditative and playful qualities.
Varkenshond
Somewhat obscure, half Dutch-half Antwerpian collective that met at a âMaggergergorian Spiritual Philosophyâ masterclass in the early years of the 2000âs. Their spooky shows are a cross between Amon DuĂźl I tactics and a dark ritual healing. Their debut vinyl was released last year on Aguirre Records.
