Iceland folk/soul sensation presents debut album!
A Liveurope concert:
The first pan-European initiative supporting concert venues in their efforts to promote emerging European music.
Aside from the correct spelling of volcano Eyjafjallajökull’s name, most Iceland-related Google search terms relate to musical greats like Sigur Rós, Björk and Of Monsters and Men. But, aside from those renowned stars, the country also contains an unexplored treasure of new talent, with freaky folk/pop sensation Júníus Meyvant at the top of that list!
Two years ago, the frivolous Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson – the brilliant brain behind Júníus Meyvant – shot out of the starting blocks with impressive debut single ‘Color Decay’ that went right to Number 1 in his cold homeland. A highly acclaimed debut EP and a number of prizes at the Iceland Music Awards, including ‘Best Song’ and ‘Best Newcomer’, soon spiced up his growing track record. His intimate visit to Ghent’s showcase festival Glimps was also highly appreciated: “Meyvant ontpopte zich tot dé revelatie op Glimps 2015”, according to DaMusic.
Debut ‘Floating Harmonies’ (out on 8/7 via Record Records, label of Of Monsters and Men and Vök, amongst others) is an album full of masterful folk melodies and exceptional soul & gospel, complemented by crystal clear arrangements. A new star has appeared in the Northern Light-drenched Icelandic heavens!
