Experimental folk with Eastern European influences

Francesca Ter-Berg (cello) and Flora Curzon (violin) together form the London-based string duo Fran & Flora. The virtuoso musicians are always seeking new paths in their contemporary folk songs infused with Easter European influences.  They never avoid experiment and that gives their music an entirely different dimension.

They have already worked with the likes of Portico Quartet, Floating Points and Talvin Singh in the past and the debut they released earlier this year was loaded with great reviews.

In the press ‘what at first glance might seem a pleasant collection of Eastern European melodies turns out to be aiming at something altogether more mysterious. Fran & Flora are pushing out into deeper waters than where their mentors have splashed….an album of beguiling beauty’ The Wire
‘London’s best-kept secret’ really should be more widely known, and even revered for its captivating, quasi-mystical, meditative summoning of landscape, tradition and beauty. This is a lost, often Eastern European, other world, of fragile and filigreed klezmer, Roma music and much else besides.’ fROOTS
‘…. take Eastern European / Eurasian folk and infuse it with the quiet-loud sense of post rock exploration that unites the likes of Mogwai and Jambinai…. Thrills and chills in equal amount.’ Mojo
