Triggerfinger & The Wire approved afro-latin mathcore!
No box office / free for King Gizzard & TLW visitors.
Pixvae is a delicious mix of French 'math-rock' (played by jazz musicians) and Columbian 'currulao' (for the vocals and percussion). That, on paper, strange combination of the bands Kouma and Bambazu-Nilamayé delivers vehement, highly original 'afro-latin': polyrhythmic, multi-voiced, with a (baritone) sax for the bass parts, and so unique that Triggerfinger recently also welcomed to their anniversary party.
For fans of La Yegros, Ialma, Värttinä, Zap Mama, Toto La Momposina...
In the press The Wire: 'Pixvae have taken […] sturdy foundations and built a roughhouse, jazz-inflected art rock on them, blocking in marimba patterns with fierce guitar, replacing the bodily throb of cununo and bomba with shocked out trap drums.'
Fun fact The band name apparently refers to a(n also tasty?) cross between a peach and a palm!?
