Dive into Lander Gyselinck’s world of drums
In this masterclass, Lander Gyselinck takes to the drum kit and takes the audience on a journey through his musical practice as a drummer, composer and creator. Through live performance, demonstrations and discussion, he explores various aspects of his work.
He will focus on four themes:
Groove as a language – how microtiming, feel and placement make the difference between playing correctly and communicating musically.
Improvisation beyond jazz – improvisation as an essential skill for every modern drummer, including within grooves and beats.
Hybrid drumming & sound design – combining acoustic drums with samples, loops and electronics.
PhD in the Arts – on his doctoral journey and how albums such as Hihats In Trees form part of his artistic research.
