Impressive American roots-rock
"The simple fact is that James McMurtry may be the truest, fiercest songwriter of his generation…"
Stephen King
This Texan singer-songwriter is the son of celebrated writer Larry McMurtry (Pullitzer prize winner and, amongst other things, co-author of Brokeback Mountain) and is a master in the writing of American mud-drenched folk-rock. His work is a match for the best of what John Mellencamp, Tom Petty, John Hiatt, Lyle Lovett or Steve Earl already wrote. So it is a wonder then that, to this day, he has not yet broken through in Europe.
His latest (and 11th) album is to be released in early February via PIAS and, to promote it, McMurtry will be holding a brief European solo-tour whereby he will also drop by Huis23.
