En Forro In The Dark zijn vier Brazilianen met\nthuisbasis in New York\,waar ze dit tintelende party geluid\nvertalen naar de grootstad (en de rest van de wereld én de\n21ste eeuw). Met dank aan David Byrne (die ook al eens\nmeezingt) en Bebel Gilberto (waarmee ze ook al eens op\ntournee mogen). Met dit jaar nog een nieuwe cd via Rough\nTrade\, en nu we toch in het Engels bezig zijn\, hieronder\nnog even in hun eigen woorden:    'Picture this:\nit's an exceptionally hot\, muggy night in the heart of\nNortheast Brazil. While the ambient forest and wildlife\nsounds engulf most of the region\, a bright rhythmic pulse\nbeats out of a large\, illuminated dance club. A sweaty\ngroup of men and women\, who should be exhausted after a\nlong week's work\, dance exuberantly pelvis-to-pelvis in\na waltz-meets-salsa like motion to a colorful vibrant band\neffortlessly performing a style of music centered around the\nbass-like thump of a zabumba\, the awkward wail of an\naccordion and a large metal triangle rattled so quickly\,\nyou'd think the musician was having a seizure.Well ok\,\nForro in the Dark is not quite that type of traditional\nforro band\, instead they are bringing an updated style of\nthe music to the hipsters and club-goers of NYC\, but the\nsweaty\, excitable vibe is still undeniable. Supplementing\nthe traditional instrumentation with electric guitars\, an\narray of flutes\, modern percussion and other contemporary\ninstruments\, along with the help of David Byrne\, Bebel\nGilberto and Miho Hatori\, Forro in the Dark capture the\nimmediate\, pleasure-craving core of forro for modern\naudiences to relieve their stress on the dance floor just\nlike the Brazilian workers of the early 1900s.Forro in the\nDark is Mauro Refosco on Zabumba and Vocals; Gilmar Gomes on\nPercussion and Vocals; Davi Vieira on Percussion and Vocals;\nGuilherme Monteiro on Guitar and Vocals; Jorge Continentino\non Pifano\, Baritone Sax and Vocals; and Smokey Hormel on\nBaritone Guitar\, Slide Guitar and Vocals.'    EXTRA\nEXTRA BANDINFOAbandoning the accordion\, they've added\nJorge's pifano\, a wooden flute from the Northeast of\nBrazil\, Guilherme's twangy guitar\, and Davi's\ntimbau\, a Bahian drum. The new additions float between the\nbeat of Mauro's zabumba\, a drum with both snare and\nbass pitches\, and the tweet of Davi's triangle.
