DESCRIPTION:Na begin jaren ’70 het Ottawa Music Company (een 22-koppig\nrock orkest) mee op te richten wordt Chris Cutler in ’71\ndrummer bij de legendarische avant-rock band Henry Cow (met\no.a. Fred Frith). Hiermee zal Cutler 8 jaar lang platen\nopnemen\, touren en stukken schrijven voor o.a. dans en\ntheater. In tussentijd richt hij ook nog andere bands op\nzoals: Art Bears\, News from Babel\, Cassiber\, The (ec)\nNudes\, The Science Group en p53 en is hij een permanent lid\nvan Pere Ubu\, Hail en The Wooden Birds.Naast zijn werk voor\ntheater-\, film- en radioprojecten werkt hij met een hele\nrits andere artiesten samen zoals: Fred Frith\, Zeena\nParkins\, Jon Rose\, Tim Hodgkinson\, David Thomas\, Peter\nBlegvad\, Daevid Allen\, Daan Vandewalle\, Stevan\nTickmayer\, Annie Gosfield\, het Hyperion Ensemble en\nspectralisten Iancu Dumitrescu en diens vrouw Ana Maria\nAvram. Chris Cutler is ook permanent lid van The Bad Boys\n(een Cage\, Stockhausen\, Fluxus\,…-tribute band)\, The\nArtbears Songbook en What River en werkt hij samen met zowat\nalle grote namen uit de improvisatiewereld.Cutler is ook\noprichter van het independent ReR Megacorp label\,\nuitgever\, auteur van het boek ‘File Under Popular’ en\nheeft ook al vele artikels over muziek(theorie) geschreven.\nIn Huis23 zal Chris Cutler\, op vraag van het LMI\, een\nlezing komen geven en een set spelen in het teken van\n‘loops’    LOOPS    A loop is glitch in time. It’s a\nzombie sound that keeps coming back. A loop is not human\,\nit’s an artefact of technology. And loops are everywhere\,\ntirelessly repeating themselves to anyone who will listen.\nThey seem familiar – but they are not; they are profoundly\nalien. We mostly don’t notice because loops are chameleons\nas well as zombies. And they can do great good – so long\nas they are taken one iteration at a time. They can also do\ngreat harm - I mean profound\, existential harm – which is\nwhy we so often associate them with insanity and death.\nNeither attribute – good nor bad - is anything we can do\nmuch about because loops are a plain fact in today’s world\n- and they’re not going anywhere. But we can approach them\nwith caution. And that’s my topic for this talk.
