DESCRIPTION:Après avoir contribué à la création de la Ottawa Music\nCompany (un ensemble rock de 22 musiciens) au début des\nannées 70\, Chris Cutler est devenu en 1971 le batteur du\nlégendaire groupe d'avant-rock Henry Cow (aux côtés\nde Fred Frith). Avec cette formation\, Cutler allait pendant\n8 ans enregistrer des disques\, partir en tournée tout en\ncomposant pour la danse et le théâtre. Entre-temps\, il\naura fondé de nombreux autres groupes comme Art Bears\,\nNews from Babel\, Cassiber\, The (ec) Nudes\, The Science\nGroup et p53 et est devenu un membre permanent de Pere Ubu\,\nHail et The Wooden Birds.En dehors de son travail pour des\nprojets théâtraux\, cinématographiques et radio\, Cutler\na collaboré avec une foule d'autres artistes comme Fred\nFrith\, Zeena Parkins\, Jon Rose\, Tim Hodgkinson\, David\nThomas\, Peter Blegvad\, Daevid Allen\, Daan Vandewalle\,\nStevan Tickmayer\, Annie Gosfield\, le Hyperion Ensemble et\nle spectraliste Iancu Dumitrescu et sa femme Ana Maria\nAvram. Chris Cutler est aussi membre permanent de The Bad\nBoys (un groupe de reprises de Cage\, Stockhausen\,\nFluxus\,…)\, The Artbears Songbook et What River et il a\npour ainsi dire collaboré avec tous les grands noms de la\nmusique improvisée. Cutler est\, en outre\, le fondateur du\nlabel indépendant ReR Megacorp. Il est aussi éditeur et\nl'auteur du livre « File Under Popular » et a écrit\nde nombreux articles sur la théorie musicale. À la demande\ndu LMI\, Chris Cutler donnera\, au Huis23\, une conférence\net un set placés sous le signe des « loops ».    LOOPS   \nA loop is glitch in time. It’s a zombie sound that keeps\ncoming back. A loop is not human\, it’s an artefact of\ntechnology. And loops are everywhere\, tirelessly repeating\nthemselves to anyone who will listen. They seem familiar –\nbut they are not; they are profoundly alien. We mostly\ndon’t notice because loops are chameleons as well as\nzombies. And they can do great good – so long as they are\ntaken one iteration at a time. They can also do great harm -\nI mean profound\, existential harm – which is why we so\noften associate them with insanity and death. Neither\nattribute – good nor bad - is anything we can do much\nabout because loops are a plain fact in today’s world -\nand they’re not going anywhere. But we can approach them\nwith caution.
