In-house Photographer Francis Vanhee presents exhibition: “AB is my laboratory”

Francis Vanhee (23) is studying photography at the KASK in Ghent. Those studies, and an unbridled love of music, led him to Anspachlaan 110 a year ago, where he was chosen from more than a hundred candidates to be the new AB In-house Photographer. On September 26, we look back on that first year with an expo and a concert.

“So suddenly you’re living your wet dream on the frontline at one of the big name Belgian concert venues: shooting images of Vulfpeck with a brand new Canon that you received along with the In-house Photographer business card”, says Francis. The year passed furiously fast for the young photographer. Since September 2017, he has attended more than 70 AB concerts and says that he has searched for a new way of capturing a concert in images.

Francis about his expo: “I’ve viewed the past year as In-house Photographer as an experiment. AB became the laboratory in which I experimented with concert photography in order to arrive at an own visual language, an own way of depicting concerts, as a sort of story. Whereby I didn’t so much focus on the artist but rather used them to create my own world. I want to reflect those various experiments in my exhibition.”

The In-house Photographer concept has been around for 10 years now. To mark the occasion, Francis has invited Tristan to come blow the AB Club away after the vernissage for his expo. Tristan is the musical project of peer Isolde Van Den Bulcke, someone who always leaves room for improvisation and sees her work as something that can continually change.

From Wednesday 26 September until the end of June 2019, you can come admire Francis’ work throughout AB. His works are spread around the Agora and in AB Resto. Tickets for the Tristan concert can be purchased here.
