DESCRIPTION:Wolves in the Throne Room hailing from Olympia\,\nWashington\, are undoubtedly the flag-bearers of the\nso-called post-black metal scene. They describe their music\nthemselves as "purifying black metal" or as\n"transformative black metal" too. The band earned\ntheir first stripes in the punk and squatter circles with\nwhich they still share a fanatical D.I.Y. ethic. Their form\nof black metal is formed by a hypnotic mix of\, say\, the\nmanic aggression of early Mayhem\, the slowcore of Neurosis\nand the ethereal mysteriousness of Dead Can Dance in its\nheyday. The band has been housed on the Southern Lord label\nof Greg Anderson - from Sunn O))) - since 2007\, where they\nfirst released long-player ‘Two Hunters’ and in 2009\ntheir latest masterpiece ‘Black Cascade’. Ideologically\nWolves In The Throne Room like to keep themselves far\nremoved from the standard satanic metal-clichés and are\,\non the other hand\, followers of what they themselves call\nan eco-spiritual or eco-anarchistic philosophy. A Wolves In\nThe Throne Room show is thus also more than a simple\nconcert\, it is an almost shamanistic ritual in which the\nmusicians carry you away to a dark\, Dantesque underworld.\nIn the words of drummer Aaron Weaver: "It is a kind of\nexistential horror\, because we all feel there is something\nlurking beneath the surface\, there is something primal\nunderneath\, something hidden. And that is why modern people\nare so neurotic a lot of the time\, because we aren’t able\nto confront this darkness and fear and horror that is very\nmuch a natural part of life.
