SUMMARY:Why? + Deerhoof + DIIV + BRNS + Clinic
LOCATION:AB Box (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:The previous two successful editions of Autumn Falls had\nsold out shows by Low\, Pinback\, Bill Callahan\, SX\,\nMetronomy\, Beach House\, Ólafur Arnalds\, etc… The third\nedition guarantees another surprising\, eclectic line-up for\nthe passionate music lover. Autumn Falls 2012 takes place\nfrom November 26 till December 2 in the heart of\nBrussels.Autumn Falls is a collaboration between local\nvenues and clubs in Brussels (AB\, Botanique\, Atelier 210\,\nVK\, Magasin 4\, Maison des Musiques and Madame Moustache)\nand European booking agency/Benelux promoter Toutpartout. In\nrecent years the indoor music festival has taken up a\nprominent position in the European fall concert\ncalendar.Toutpartout was founded in 1994 and organises shows\nfor national and international acts in the Benelux\, as well\nas entire tours throughout Europe.Confirmed bands so far\nare: Shearwater / Dark Dark Dark / Deerhoof / WHY? / Great\nLake Swimmers / Father John Misty / TY Segall / DIIV /\nSandro Perri / Do Make Say Think / Eric Chenaux / Hundred\nWaters / The Soft Moon / Jens Lekman / The Lumerians /\nZammuto WHY? (us)By starting their own band\, these\ntwo brothers and their schoolmate gave rise to the invention\nof new words to describe their music. One of these words:\nfolk-hop. As with all their previous albums\, the fifth\nrecord ‘Mumps\, Etc.’ will also be released on Anticon\,\nthe label that frontman Yoni Wolf helped create. Deerhoof\n(us)Pop = catchy\, pop = new\, pop = no rules. That’s how\nDeerhoof’s Greg Saunier announced the new album ‘Breakup\nSong’. Since their beginnings as a noise outfit in San\nFrancisco back in 1994\, they developed into – at least\naccording to Pitchfork – “the best band in the world”.\nNot that the word noise alone is adequate; their influence\non many a musician in the indie world today is obvious\, and\nthat’s due not in the least to the fact that they are\ndevout to subversiveness.DIIV (us)Out of respect for Belgian\nDirk Ivens’s industrial project by the same name\, Dive\nwas rebaptised DIIV earlier this year. Beach Fossils\nguitarist Zachary Cole Smith locked himself into a small\nroom in Bushwick (Brooklyn\, NY) one summer and emerged with\n‘Oshin’\, released this year by Captured Tracks. His\ninfluences? Krautrock\, psychedelia and the late 80s in\nSeattle. BRNS (b)On January 1st\, during the first hours\nof 2010\, Antoine Meersseman and Tim Philippe improvised a\nfirst rehearsal in a small room in Brussels. After their\nshow at Atelier 210 a few months later\, the music\nprogrammer was so impressed that he started the label Limite\nRecords\, where the band released their first 7”. Thanks\nto word of mouth\, they have shared the stage with Suuns\,\nDjango Django and Cloud Nothings\, and expanded their\nterritory from Brussels to Ghent\, Bruges\, Antwerp and even\nParis! And the music itself? It can best be described as an\noverexposed pastel coloured polaroid of California. \nClinic (uk)‘Free Reign’\, the long awaited seventh album\nby Clinic\, is released November 12th. The Liverpudlian band\nis best known for their use of vintage keyboards and organs\nfound on flea markets\, and for Ade Blackburn’s surrealist\nlyrics. Without straying too far from their formula\, they\npresent their most powerful work to date on this release.\nThose who never saw them live have no reason to miss out on\nthis four piece dressed up in surgeon’s clothes! \n
