SUMMARY:Tikiman live with Scion (performing songs from the Rhythm &
Sound classic 'Showcase' album) + Mark Ernestus (DJ-set)
LOCATION:AB Salon - zittend (Steenstraat 11\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:Soundtrack by: BL13P DJ Dub Be Good To Me\n[Celebrating 45 years of dub] In 2013\, AB is\nfocusing on a sub-genre of reggae and it's worldwide\ninfluence: dub. Without beating around the bush\, lets just\ncall it the instrumental version of reggae. Dub came into\nbeing in 1968 – and so it's exactly 45 years old in\n2013 – thanks to the error (!) of one man: Osbourne\nRuddock aka King Tubby. During the completion of a master\ntape he accidentally forgot to mix the vocals into the\nwhole. Dub (and versions aka instrumentals) was born. \n AB honours the radical and innovative musical style by\nplacing this symbolic date in the spotlight. With dub as the\npoint of departure. And with an answer to the question: how\n(relevant) does dub sound in the year 2013? \nTikiman live with Scion (d) Performing songs from the\nRhythm & Sound classic ‘showcase’ album \nGermany has written even more musical history than just\nKraftwerk and Einstürzende Neubauten. So it was that labels\nlike Basic Channel\, Burial Mix and Chain Reaction ensured a\nbig influence on the techno scene. Behind these labels you\nwill find Mark Ernestus who\, together with Moritz Von\nOswald\, formed the unique Rhythm & Sound. Let's\njust call it: the best and most influential thing that\nEurope has ever known in dub. Discussion groups: bring it\non! The fabulous ‘Showcase’ album was released\nexactly 15 years ago (in ’98) with the assistance of Paul\nSt. Hilaire\, who has meanwhile renamed himself Tikiman. The\nresult: the warm voice of reggae star Tikiman over the\ninstantly recognizable minimal dub of Rhythm & Sound.\nEven though Rhythm & Sound didn't opt to play these\nsongs live at the time\, they gave their blessing to Scion\n(the duo René Löwe and Peter ‘Substance’ Kuschnereit)\nand Tikiman to put this legendary and exceptionally\ninfluential album in the spotlight once more. That's\nwhat we call: Dub Be Good To Me #1 opening in style. \n Mark Ernestus (d) He who says Rhythm &\nSound\, can best get a hold of ½ Rhythm & Sound or in\nthis: Mark Ernestus. Ernestus is also the founder of the\nlegendary Hard Wax record store in Berlin that intends to\nbring mostly cutting edge dance music to your attention.\nUnder Maurizio\, he made influential tracks on the\nborderline between dub and techno. In recent years\nErnestus has remixed the likes of Tony Allen\, Tortoise as\nwell as Konono No. 1. He also runs two labels: Dug Out (with\nMark Ainley of Honest Jon’s) -on which he releases reggae\nreissues- and the brand new Ndagga label -on which he flirts\nwith complex African rhythms. You can expect a set full of\ndub and reggae: from roots to digi-dub. From the minimal\nsound of Rhythm & Sound to heavyweight up-tempo tracks. \n
