DESCRIPTION:Attention: this is not a concert but an album listening\nsession    The Velvet Underground – The Velvet Underground\n& Nico‘The Album That Changed Music’ – The\nObserverThe musical landscape would certainly look different\nwithout The Velvet Underground. Many performers make no\nsecret of the fact that they were strongly influenced by\nVU\, just think David Bowie\, Joy Division\, Sonic Youth\,\nPixies\, Beck\, REM\, The Strokes\,….When their\, now\nclassic\, debut The Velvet Underground & Nico was\nreleased in 1967 (in full flower power period) however\,\nnobody had any idea that this band would so strongly\ninfluence coming generations. Various record labels refused\nto release it\, kept under wraps by music journalists\,\nbanned from the radio\, and record stores refused to stock\nthe album due to the far too controversial content. VU's\ncareer couldn't have gotten off to a worse start. There\nare various reasons why the album is one of the most\ninfluential ever and has become a true rock music icon:-the\nnotorious banana cover by Andy Warhol-the musical boundaries\nthat were explored. -the continual seeking of experiment and\nthe search for a unique sound (that violin of John\nCale's!)-the subjects broached: sadomasochism\, drug\nuse\, prostitution.-and because it contains classics like\nI’m Waiting For My Man\, Femme Fatale\, Venus In Furs\,\nAll Tomorrow’s Parties and Heroin. The public wasn't\nready for this in 1967\, meanwhile history has proven to the\ncontrary.On 15 June you can immerse yourself in the unique\nworld of Lou Reed\, John Cale\, Sterling Morrison\, Mo\nTucker and Nico for 48 minutes and 51 seconds.The album will\nbe introduced in Dutch by Kurt Overbergh\, Ancienne\nBelgique's Artistic Director.
