SUMMARY:The Van Jets
LOCATION:AB Box (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:The Van Jets! Finally on their own and in full glory in the\nAB! We remember with immense pleasure: their Rock Rally\nvictory\, their support acts to The Datsuns\, or their\nmind-blowing headliner at ABBota 2010. So now\, following a\nsuper summer full of festivals\, they're ready to\nround-off this guaranteed grandiose 'Saturday\nNight'. The Van Jets hail from Ostend and that is\nclearly 'from near England' because\, like no other\nlocal talent\, this foursome plays strongly and successfully\nwith all sorts of super glam- and guitar-rockers. So too on\nthe long awaited second CD ''Cat Fit Fury' (via\nPias)\, lets just take Charlie Poel for example\, reviewing\nit in Humo:'The Van Jets have namely retained the best\nof their garage-rock attitude – it's explosive\,\nit's thunderous\, it's dripping with drive – but\,\nwith the assistance of English producer Jon Gray\,\nthey've tarted it up with a few more finishing touches\nand in the process have automatically arrived at their great\ninspiration: David Bowie (what a voice singer/songwriter\nJohannes Verschaeve sometimes uses!)... and also at Marc\nBolan's T-Rex\, and at The Beatles in muscle-enhancing\nclenbuterol-mode (thus: in 'Helter Skelter'-mode).\nNothing wrong with that. In other places we also hear hipper\ninfluences: the raw energy of The White Stripes linked to\nthe misleading light-heartedness of Vampire Weekend. The\nresult is always: unmistakably and entirely The Van\nJets.'The Van Jets? Yes\, man\, this is as good as it\ngets! Support-act will be Holland's Go Back to The\nZoo\, who sold-out the Paradiso this fall\, where we also\nread that: 'Brothers Cas and Teun always made music with\nBram in Nijmegen. Once they left for Amsterdam\, they pushed\na bass guitar into the hands of Lars (who they'd met in\nthe queue for a Strokes concert) and Go Back To The Zoo was\nborn. They went to rehearse in a space where Boudewijn Buch\nkept his zoological collection. In 2009 they released two\nsingles: ‘Beam Me Up’ about laziness and nothingness /\n‘Electric’ about lust\, love and ‘Guinevere’. The\nband had a 3FM mega-hit straight away with this second\nsingle and Go Back To The Zoo was the sensation of the last\nNoorderslag festival.' The debut album was released 13\nAugust and is named Benny Blisto\, after a friend who's\nthe greatest cowboy in the Netherlands. \n
