SUMMARY:The Sonics + Thee Oh Sees + Chain & The Gang + Rock Ahoy Par
ty
LOCATION:AB Box (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:The Sonics are pretty much the forefathers of garage-rock.\nEstablished in the mid '60's in Tacoma\,\nWashington\, this foursome are held personally responsible\nfor the increasing popularity of that raw garage sound among\nthe cool teenagers of the '60's\, doing so with\nthemes like surf\, cars\, guitars and … girls. Their raw\nsound also provided them with the official title of first\npunk band ever. They wrote masterpieces like\n‘Strychnine’\, ‘Psycho’ and ‘The Witch’ and have\nbeen honoured ever since by hundreds of musicians\,\nincluding Eagles Of Death Metal\, The White Stripes\, The\nHives and The Fuzztones. They became active again in 2007\nand in the following year they filled the bills of\nhonourable festivals like Primavera Barcelona and the Sjock\nfestival in Gierle.Nothing more fun than to test out The\nSonics this same Sunday against 2 modern\, young\,\nunpretentious garage- & soul-bands. We kick off with\nChain & The Gang or the band encompassing ex-Weird War\,\nex-Make Up and ex-Nation Of Ulysses singer Ian Svenonius.\nHis raw\, honest soul-sound can be heard on the new album\n‘Music’s Not For Everyone’ that has just been released\non K Records and is now a favourite on the VPRO 3voor12\nLuisterpaal.Afterwards it'll be slightly more\npsychedelic with Thee Oh Sees. Post-nostalgia\,\npost-garage\, that's where you'll find the latest\nincarnation of this quartet encompassing John Dwyer that\nfurther consists of Brigid Dawson\, Petey Dammit and Mike\nShoun. Their most recent ‘Warm Slime’ was released on\nthe In The Red label and predecessor ‘The Master's\nBedroom is Worth Spending a Night In’ from 2008 was partly\nproduced by TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek. ‘Tunes only a\nsoulless vampire couldn't enjoy’. (Audio\nLunchbox)We'll be finishing up in style with a true ROCK\nAHOY after-party and that with the team responsible for\npretty much the best radio programme that Studio Brussel has\nsent into the ether in previous years. Garage\, soul\,\nr&b and much more from 6 decades of pop music. \n \n
