SUMMARY:Selah Sue
LOCATION:AB Grote zaal (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:Her first concert on 11 March in the Main Hall of AB was\nsold out in no time and for her second concert we're now\ndown to the last tickets. Because all this happened before\nSelah Sue's debut album was available in stores\,\nshe's now announcing a third and final AB concert: on\nSunday 13 March (tickets available as of now). These are the\nonly indoor concerts prior to Selah Sue hitting the summer\nfestivals. Her debut will be released on 4 March and the\nfirst single from it ('Crazy Vibes') certainly\nalready appears to be a big hit. What's more\, it is\napparent from her choice of support acts that our former\nArtist In Residence keeps her finger on the pulse. The young\nbut already immensely hip On-Point label has received carte\nblanche at the 3 concerts in AB. To appear are: JtotheC\n& The Bad Mothas (13/3) and Title feat. Delvis (12/3). \n Selah Sue has won this year a MIA (Music Industry Award)\nin the category Solo Female Artist. Only those devoid of\nany sensory capacity whatsoever would wrinkle their brow\nwhen hearing the name Selah Sue. At 21 years of age\, this\nyoung singer-songwriter from Leuven is still a spring\nchicken but she effortlessly captures the entire world. Just\nrecently opening his concert in the Sportpaleis at the\nrequest of Prince himself. What's more\, as we speak\,\nshe's scoring a hit with the single ‘Crazy Vibes’\nfrom her new E.P. ‘Raggamuffin’ (‘more than a\npacifier: a shrewd mix of pop\, R&B\, electronica and\n– that's right – a dash of reggae’ - HUMO).\nMoreover\, this E.P. proclaims the last stretch prior to her\ndebut album... to be released on 4 March by French label\nBecause\, which also houses other talented acts like Amadou\n& Mariam\, Justice and Charlotte Gainsbourg. This same\nalbum also forms the theme for her concert 'with\nband' in the AB one week later\, on Friday 11 an\nSaturday 12 March to be precise.Selah Sue\, our\nartiest-in-residence in 2009\, has worked extremely hard on\nher debut album over the last few months. In the meantime\nshe has accumulated quite some live experience\, mainly solo\nand in support of an EP that she was able to record in the\nABstudio. You're sure to know the hit 'Black Part\nLove' from that period. Selah Sue was discovered by\nMilow during an Open Mic evening in the Depot in Leuven and\nnow shares a manager with Gabriel Rios. No surprise really\nif you've seen her perform\, then you already know that\nshe is one of Belgium's most promising performers.\n"I write as a singer-songwriter but I most like singing\n'black music'. Soul or blues or ska or ragga or\ndrum'n'bass. Rhythm and colour." In the\nmeantime\, foreign lands are fully falling for this talented\nyoung lady too - with an appearance in the immensely popular\nFrench TV-show Taratata where she performed a duet with Moby\n- and tours of full halls aside performers like Patrice\,\nJamie Lidell and Keziah Jones. What's more\, she's\nmade friends with half of Gnarls Barkley\, that is: Cee Lo\nGreen. He sings on one of the tracks on her album and she\nplays his vocal counterpart on the delicious Cee Lo track\n'Please'. The On-Point label from Brussels\, a\nsmall and independent label\, was established barely 1 year\nago. At record speed\, the label released four 7-inch vinyl\nalbums. They will be providing a different act for each of\nthe three Selah Sue concerts in the AB in March\n2011.'Live Life' is the impressive debut by\nBrussels' singer-songwriter Maëlan that was recently\nhailed “album of the week” on FM Brussel. Having grown\nup in a multi-cultural environment\, it was there that he\nabsorbed his favourite genres\, such as African music\,\ngrime\, dubstep\, reggae and hip-hop. After having lived in\nEngland for a while\, Maëlan returned to Brussels where he\nbegan working as MC with Grimelock. That same Grimelock also\nmade a contribution to Maëlan's debut\, just as the\nomnipresent Omar Perry.
