SUMMARY:Selah Sue
LOCATION:AB Grote zaal (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:Selah Sue has won this year a MIA (Music Industry Award) in\nthe category Solo Female Artist. Only those devoid of any\nsensory capacity whatsoever would wrinkle their brow when\nhearing the name Selah Sue. At 21 years of age\, this young\nsinger-songwriter from Leuven is still a spring chicken but\nshe effortlessly captures the entire world. Just recently\nopening his concert in the Sportpaleis at the request of\nPrince himself. What's more\, as we speak\, she's\nscoring a hit with the single ‘Crazy Vibes’ from her new\nE.P. ‘Raggamuffin’ (‘more than a pacifier: a shrewd\nmix of pop\, R&B\, electronica and – that's right\n– a dash of reggae’ - HUMO). Moreover\, this E.P.\nproclaims the last stretch prior to her debut album... to be\nreleased on 4 March by French label Because\, which also\nhouses other talented acts like Amadou & Mariam\,\nJustice and Charlotte Gainsbourg. This same album also forms\nthe theme for her concert 'with band' in the AB one\nweek later\, on Friday 11 an Saturday 12 March to be\nprecise.Selah Sue\, our artiest-in-residence in 2009\, has\nworked extremely hard on her debut album over the last few\nmonths. In the meantime she has accumulated quite some live\nexperience\, mainly solo and in support of an EP that she\nwas able to record in the ABstudio. You're sure to know\nthe hit 'Black Part Love' from that period. Selah\nSue was discovered by Milow during an Open Mic evening in\nthe Depot in Leuven and now shares a manager with Gabriel\nRios. No surprise really if you've seen her perform\,\nthen you already know that she is one of Belgium's most\npromising performers. "I write as a singer-songwriter\nbut I most like singing 'black music'. Soul or blues\nor ska or ragga or drum'n'bass. Rhythm and\ncolour." In the meantime\, foreign lands are fully\nfalling for this talented young lady too - with an\nappearance in the immensely popular French TV-show Taratata\nwhere she performed a duet with Moby - and tours of full\nhalls aside performers like Patrice\, Jamie Lidell and\nKeziah Jones. What's more\, she's made friends with\nhalf of Gnarls Barkley\, that is: Cee Lo Green. He sings on\none of the tracks on her album and she plays his vocal\ncounterpart on the delicious Cee Lo track 'Please'. \n The On-Point label from Brussels\, a small and independent\nlabel\, was established barely 1 year ago. At record speed\,\nthe label released four 7-inch vinyl albums. They will be\nproviding a different act for each of the three Selah Sue\nconcerts in the AB in March 2011.JtotheC & The Bad\nMothas will play on Saturday 12 March. JtotheC (previously\nknown from DJ Grazzhoppa's DJ Big Band) is referred to\nas the Flemish Jamie Lidell and surprised everyone at the\nend of last year when he played an overwhelmingly energetic\nand tight live-set as opener for Aloe Blacc in the Vooruit\nin Ghent. \n
