On the inside pages also: 'thoroughly genre\ndefying... an enigma... a global mish-mash\, and therefore\,\nperhaps\, the future?'. For those who can't believe\nit: ask anyone who was there last year in that well-filled\,\ncooking AB! Only satisfied music-lovers who had experienced\na sweltering\, exciting and intense concert (and\ncouldn't keep it to themselves.) RODRIGO SANCHEZ &\nGABRIELA QUINTERO's unique musical mix is also more than\nsufficiently run-in on the road: purely instrumental\, but\nvaried and strongly attuned. But the question remains: is it\nworld-music? Is it folk? Is it jazz? It's definitely not\nflamenco ? that's what they say themselves - but that\nsame energy and passion is certainly there\, brimming with\n'Latin harmonies & rock structure'. Rodrigo\n& Gabriela can count on friends like David Gray\n(remember AB February 2006?)\, Damien Rice or violinist Roby\nLakatos. Their untitled breakthrough CD is out on Rubyworks\n(here via Pias) and produced by John Leckie (see also:\nRadiohead\, Stone Roses\, Muse...). With that same CD they\nimmediately entered the Irish hit parade at number 1 and it\ncontinues to sell worldwide! Not bad for two Mexicans\nwithout conservatory training\, rather a heavy-metal past\,\nand with experience at the school of hard knocks on\n(European) streets. Those who also like Apocalyptica will\nfind this even more impressive and more charming (including\nfresh versions of Led Zep's 'Stairway To Heaven'\nand Metallica's 'Orion'). Satori!
