Are you ready then for the\nthird AB-visit of Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca? There's\nquite a good chance that you've already seen or heard\nFonseca in the past. Fonseca was namely enlisted to the\nBuena Vista Social Club when Rubén González became too ill\nto keep performing. So it was that Fonseca toured for five\nyears with BVSC. Fonseca could also be heard on albums by\nOmara Portuondo and also Ibrahim Ferrer. When the latter\npassed away\, Fonseca also stopped working with BVSC and\nrecorded ‘Zamazu’\, a tribute to singer Ibrahim Ferrer.\nSuccessor ‘Akokan’ was just recently released via Enja.\nDe Standaard wrote of it: “Fonseca doesn't limit\nhimself to the familiar exciting Afro-Cuban jazz\, but\nrather writes accessible\, original melodies.
