Kyp Malone (TV On The Radio) (us)    Rain Machine is\nnone less than TV ON THE RADIO’s guitarist/singer Kyp\nMalone. He took care of every detail of his untitled debut -\nreleased end ’09 via Anti- (see also: Tom Waits\,\nGrinderman\, The Swell Season\,…) - himself\, or better\nsaid: from songs to artwork. Malone even described his\nsolo-debut cryptically as “a nearly full spectrum of\nfrequencies audible to the human ear\, some rhythm some\nrhyme.” . Other media were more concrete. NME:\n“Malone's Rain Machine surpasses his day job for sheer\ninventiveness… It's undoubtedly one of the most wildly\ninventive and entertaining things anyone will hear all\nyear.” USA Today is a fan too: “Malone steps out with an\nemotionally open debut just as experimental and daring as\nhis work with TVOTR.”. Just listen to the track ‘Give\nBlood’ and let yourself be convinced. Just as The Pixies\nbecame fans and took Rain Machine on their North American\ntour. 7:00 pm - The Strange BoysTexan garage rockers\,\nverging on a breakthrough. Definitely now – following\ntheir debuut ‘And Girls Club’\, on In The Red Records\n– their second album ‘Be Brave’ is being released by\nthe famous Rough Trade international. Singer and songwriter\nRyan Sambol has a whopping pinched voice-box\, which\nimmediately makes his singing considerably emotional. All\nthat in a musical mood that reminds one of the famous 13th\nFloor Elevators or - even better – of the sublime\n‘Nuggets’ compilation with impressive garage rock\nsingles dating from the second half of the 60's. Think:\nThe Seeds\, Count Five and The Knickerbockers… The Strange\nBoys have already opened for Daniel Johnston\, Julian\nCasablancas and Black Lips\, who don't all just happen\nto be performers with a considerably retro or ramshackle\nsound. Finally Goddeau about The Strange Boys: “Het is\nalsof u naar een garageversie van The Libertines of\nBabyshambles luistert.”. 8:00 pm - Fool’s Gold“The\nfirst great record of 2010.” (Rough Trade Shop)“A band\nto watch in 2010.” (The Guardian)    Fool’s Gold is a 7\nto 12-member collective from LA\, based around guitarist\nLewis Pesacov (who has a predilection for African music) and\nthe Israeli-born singer/bassist Luke Tops (who more often\nsings in Hebrew than in English). The band is further\ncompleted by saxophonists\, percussionists and (ex-)members\nof diverse bands including We Are Scientists and The Fall.\nTheir performances are a charming trip into a unique mix of\nafro-pop\, krautrock and even 80's dance-pop. Their\nself-titled debut has already been out since ‘09\, but has\nonly been introduced on the continent this year.
