SUMMARY:Ninja Tune XX feat. Coldcut, Kid Koala, Roots Manuva ...
LOCATION:AB Grote zaal (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:For this sold out concert an exchange desk will be\nopened between 7pm and 8:30pm. The purpose is to bring\npeople with spare tickets and people who are looking for\ntickets in contact with each other. So if you want to get\nrid of tickets of on the contrary are looking for tickets\,\ndo not sell and buy on the street\, but check with the\nexchange desk between 7pm and 8:30pm. AMON TOBIN en\nBONOBO are replaced by THE HEAVY en THE BUG & FLOWDAN! \n Bad new and good news regarding the celebration of 20 Years\nNinja Tune. First the bad news: Amon Tobin and Bonobo\nwon't be able to attend. For Amon Tobin the reason is\nhis application for a Green Card in the United States. The\nauthorities involved won't give him permission to leave\nthe country. The States also play a role in the absence of\nBonobo\, albeit a less binding one. He has just moved house\nto New York and\, unfortunately\, can't find the time to\ngrace the Ninja Tune XX festivities in Europe with his\npresence.The good news is that the folks behind the Ninja\nTune label have found 2 very fine last-minute replacements.\nThe Heavy shouldn't be unknown to you as they've\nalready performed in the ABClub twice and still provide\ndirty northern soul with a good dose of garage-rock\n(think:The Sonics). Following an American tour this summer\nwith Sharon Jones & The Dapkings\, they scored a bit hit\non that side of the Atlantic with ‘How You Like Me Now’.\nIn a completely different genre\, they've also managed\nto get hold of none less than The Bug for Ninja Tune XX. His\nmother just calls him Kevin Martin but she probably knows\nnothing of his night-time activities; namely banging an\nexciting mix of dancehall\, noise\, grime and hip-hop\nthrough the speakers. Last year he showed us his most dubby\nside in the King Midas Sound project and then came\, saw and\nconquered at the Domino festival. In the past\, he has been\nactive with God and Techno Animal. On 30 September he'll\nbe in the good company of MC Flowdan. In 1990\, 2 young\nguys from London\, Jonathan More and Matt Black\,\nexperienced their first small successes as producers and\nDJ’s for people like Yazz and Lisa Stansfield. Following\nan exhausting Japanese tour and dissatisfaction with their\nmajor-label they decided to start their own. The duo\,\nbetter known today as Coldcut\, began the NINJA TUNE label.\n20 (twenty!) years later the label is a household name\,\ninevitably\, a pioneer\, and at the same time homebase for a\nlong line of performers who have drastically changed the\nface of electronica\, hip-hop and dance. More than enough\ngood reasons to blow out 20 candles... and in no small way!\nThere will be a collector's box containing 6 CDs\, 6\nexclusive vinyl singles\, a book about the label and so much\nmore. In the months prior to this special release you can\ndownload exclusive mixes via de website\nwww.ninjatunexx.net.Over the past years\, AB has been a\nconstant factor in the Ninja Tune story. Various Ninja Tune\nnights have taken place here and some have even become\nlegendary. Many performers have later appeared here under\ntheir own name\, just think Amon Tobin and Roots Manuva. So\nAB certainly couldn't be missing in the exclusive list\nof cities in which Ninja Tune is to celebrate its twentieth\nanniversary world-wide. Aside from Paris\, Berlin\, London\,\nMontreal\, New York and Tokyo\, one of the impressive Ninja\nTune XX parties will be held here now too... and with an\nimpressive line-up:Amon Tobin completely won over a wound-up\nAB with his Foley Room concert in 2007. Since then he has\nmainly been working on his Two Fingers project but now\nhe'll be getting back out there again\, especially for\nthe Ninja Tune anniversary. The label's nucleus\ncouldn't be lacking and so Coldcut will also be a part\nof it all. They scored a serious hit a number of years ago\nwith ‘Walk A Mile In My Shoes’. Last year\, our\nfavourite turntablist Kid Koala worked his way into the\nlimelight with his live band The Slew but will be here now\nto display his incomparable turntable skills. The deep\nbaritone of the British hip-hop scene – and regular\nvisitor to the AB - Roots ‘Witness (1 Hope)’ Manuva will\nrepresent Ninja’s hip-hop label Big Dada! Bonobo will come\nto present their brilliant new CD ‘Black Sands’ and\nAmerican sound-wizard Daedelus presents his ‘Righteous\nFists Of Harmony’ (admittedly released on the Brainfeeder\nlabel). Those who thought that Ninja would only be looking\nback over 20 years has got it wrong: the stable's new\nand young blood will also have its place on this evening:\nthe acoustic soul-folk of singer Andreya Triana\, Austrian\nDorian Concept (think: style-mates like Dabrye and Flying\nLotus)\, Canadian Poirier (who navigates between electronica\nand hip-hop and has remixed the likes of Bonde Do Role and\nKid Sister) and\, last but not least\, King Cannibal who\nalways guarantees the darkest dubstep in London. DJ FOOD\n& DK\, otherwise known as Strictly Kev\, is no stranger\nto the Ninja fans among us. This alias was originally the\nplayground of artists like Coldcut and Patrick Carpenter\,\nbut when the latter decided to dedicate himself fully to The\nCinematic Orchestra\, Strictly Kev became the man behind DJ\nFood.Dubstep is also the soil in which ESKMO from San\nFrancisco has flourished. Following releases on respected\nlabels like Warp and Planet Mu\, he has recently signed to\nNinja Tune. Obviously a label looking to the future.In\naddition\, VJ MOX will provide all visuals. Read more. \nAlso\, in the month September\, you can head to the\nABrestaurant for an exhibition on Ninja Tune's vinyl\nartwork.
