DESCRIPTION:In 2009 a number of interesting Brussels labels will receive\nextra attention on the stage of the ABClub. Aside from the\nRat Records events already announced (the label of versatile\njazz musician Teun Verbruggen and Bruno Vansina)\, on March\n12 you can be there for a dEPOT 214 label night and on March\n19 for a Green l.f.ant label night.On March 12 it's the\nturn of dEPOT 214\, a label in the good hands of Joël\nGrignard\, amongst other things\, bassist of the band\nMonsoon. 3 bands have been programmed: NOX\, CECILIA::EYES\nand MY TV IS DEAD.Nox consists of Catherine Graindorge\n(violin)\, David Christophe (bass) and Elie Rabinovitch\n(drums). They started out making jazz and post-rock\nimprovisations\, later flirting with rock in which the sound\nof Godspeed You Black Emperor or A Silver Mt. Zion was never\nfar removed. In their universe\, warmth and fragility\nembrace one another\, just as comfort and absurdity. Their\ndebut was produced by Pierre Vervloesem\, who we know from\nhis work with the likes of Flat Earth Society.Cecilia::eyes\nis a foursome that deals in magnificent sound carpets woven\nwith slow and somber melodies. Guitars with lots of reverb\nand complex rhythmics complete characteristic qualities. As\nfar as emotionality goes\, you can safely think Mono or\nMogwai\, but there is definitely also an association with\nthe shoegazer sound that My Bloody Valentine\, Slowdive and\nCocteau Twins also eagerly utilised. Here too\, Pierre\nVervloesem (dEUS\, Monsoon) provided the production for the\ndebut ‘Mountaintops Are Sometimes Closer To The Moon’. A\nsecond album will see the light of day this year.Just like\nNox\, My TV is Dead has a connection to dance and theatre.\ndEPOT 214 brain Joël Grignard\, who is also a member of\nthis formation\, got to know singer Amaury Massion at the\nConvulsions festival\, where contemporary dance and music\nmeet. Their electro-rock was born in Berlin where they\nregularly performed in the unofficial art circuit\, and\nwhere they also found inspiration for the big-city images\nthat are undoubtedly a part of their concert.
