DESCRIPTION:Mary Gauthier is a survivor with a remarkable life story.\nShe was abandoned as a baby\, she ran away from her adoptive\nparents in her teens\, battled with alcohol and drugs before\nsettling down to a philosophy degree\, opening a Cajun\nrestaurant and then\, in her thirties\, changing tack to\nbecome a singer/songwriter on the folk and country circuit.\nThis incredible story has been a source of inspiration for\nher narrative torch songs.Her latest album "The\nFoundling"\, however\, comes from somewhere deeper: it\ndeals with the grief of abandonment\, her quest for her\nidentity and her biological mother. One could detect raw\,\nbrave edges in her earlier songs like 'Sugar Cane'\nand 'Camelot Motel'\, but the involvement of Michael\nTimmins (Cowboy Junkies) as her producer has placed her\nhighly personal songs in a delicate and moving ambience\, in\nwhich her acoustic guitar playing is supported by\naccordion\, violin\, keyboards and slide guitar.
