SUMMARY:Ladyhawke
LOCATION:AB Club - staand (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:TIMING 7pm doors 8pm Underground Railroad 9:15pm\nLadyhawke 'Don't throw her onto the same pile as\nAnnie\, Robyn or Lykke Li: qua talent she makes the rest of\nthem look like amateurs\, song after song.' (Humo)\n'A convincing debut that decorates an up-to-date sound\nwith a pinch of nostalgia.' (De Morgen) 'I write\, I\nplay. That’s what I do. Nuff sed.' (sic)\n(Ladyhawke)She was already introduced earlier this year to\nperform in the AB as support-act to The Black Kids\, but –\nas she says on her own site - 'I had to cancel the\nEuropean leg of my upcoming Black Kids support tour due to\nunforeseen circumstances. It was totally out of my control\nand I'm really devastated'. Phillipa 'Pip'\nBrown\, from New Zealand\, makes up for it now though with a\nheadline show in our ABClub. Ladyhawke – named after the\n'85 film of the same name\, with the likes of Michelle\nPfeiffer – says that she's heavily influenced by the\nmusic of the seventies and eighties. Think Blondie\, Stevie\nNicks\, Thompson Twins\, Bananarama\,... and all that with a\nserious portion of synths\, electro-beats and rock-guitars.\nHer debut of the same name recieved rave reviews\, her\nsingle ‘Back In The Van’ was hotshot on StuBru and her\nsingle ‘Paris is Burning’ received impressive remixes\nfrom Alex Gopher and Peaches. Finally\, just a fait divers:\ntake a good look at the covers of her album and singles\nsometime. They are all made in the same style\, by Sarah\nLarnach who beautifully illustrates Ladyhawke's\nobsession with cats. Support act will be Parisian trio\nUnderground Railroad. Their latest album 'Sticks And\nStones' was released last autumn on One Little Indian\nand was produced by John Goodmanson (see: Death Cab For\nCutie\, Blood Brothers\, Blonde Redhead\,...). Their\npredilection? Post-punk and no wave. Which can clearly be\nheard in their energetic group sound. Jason McGerr (Death\nCab For Cutie) about UR: “Awesome!” And also UNCUT:\n“They deserve to defy their moniker and go seriously\noverground.”
