SUMMARY:Killing Joke
LOCATION:AB Grote zaal (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:There's life after death. That must have been what\nsinger Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke was thinking when\, after\nalmost 20 years\, he spoke to drummer Paul Ferguson again at\nthe funeral of bass player Paul Raven (who also took honours\nfor Ministry and Prong). This meeting created a spark and it\nwas decided to can a new album with the original line-up and\nplan a unique world tour for September. Bass player Martin\n'Youth' Glover also returns to the stage for the\nfirst time since the 'Pandemonium' tour in 1994\,\nand guitarist Kevin 'Geordie' Walker has joined the\nfray too. The unique tour\, which brings them to just 11\ncities around the world in September (Tokyo\, New York\,\nLondon\, and the AB in Brussels) is a two-day residency\,\nwith a different set on each night: - On Monday 29 September\nKilling Joke play their full albums\, 'Killing Joke'\n(1980) and 'What's THIS For ...! (1981). - On\nTuesday 30 September they do 'Pandemonium' (1994)\nand the singles they recorded in their early years (1979\,\n1980) on the Island Records label. And with this Killing\nJoke (once described by drummer Paul Ferguson as 'the\nsound of the earth vomiting') are back from having been\naway. Still a vital presence on the border between post punk\nand metal\, it was they who managed to combine metal with\ntribal rhythms and so create a unique atmosphere of looming\ndoom and revolt. In 2003\, with their second titleless\nalbum\, they proved themselves a force to be reckoned with.\nOn that album fan-for-life Dave Grohl (Nirvana\, Foo\nFighters) played the drums. Singer Jaz Coleman has been\ninvolved in classical music for some time now. He is\ncurrently the resident composer for the Prague Symphony\nOrchestra and was formerly at the London Symphony Orchestra\nand The Auckland Philharmonic. In 2001 he wrote his first\ngrand opera for the Royal Opera House in London. In the\nmeantime guitarist Youth has become a much sought-after\nproducer. He has produced the likes of 'Urban Hymns'\nby The Verve and 'Riot City Blues' by Primal Scream.\nAlongside Godflesh and Ministry\, a similar movement\noriginated in the second half of the 80's in Paris. The\nband Treponem Pal made an exceptional mix of those\nindustrial grooves\, tribal drums and hardcore electronica.\n20 Years later the album 'Weird Machine' has now\nbeen released\, with the collaboration of recently deceased\nKilling Joke bassist Paul Raven. Killing Joke also found\nTreponem Pal most suited to add lustre to the 2-dayer in the\nAB. TIMING 7:00 doors / DJ Magog 7:20 Screening Of ...
