Coltrane sculpted an entirely inimitable signature\nsound with his saxophone (a Belgian invention by Adolphe\nSax). His rich oeuvre is now considered a sacred legacy:\n“Many artists achieve greatness but very few produce work\nthat is so moving that it’s considered sacred.” To mark\nColtrane’s 100th birthday\, in 2026 we honour his legacy\nwith a series of dance performances\, concerts\, screenings\nand artist talks.JOE LOVANO x MELISSA ALDANA x NDUDUZO\nMAKHATHINI x LINDA MAY HAN OH x JEFF 'TAIN' WATTS:\nBOTH DIRECTIONS AT ONCETo mark the centenary of John\nColtrane’s birth\, five leading figures from the world of\ncontemporary jazz pay tribute to his vision and legacy. An\nimpressive all-star quintet performs under the leadership of\nluminary saxophonist Joe Lovano\, renowned for his lyrical\nimprovisations and free\, adventurous playing. At his side\nis saxophonist Melissa Aldana\, who\, with her powerful and\ndistinctive tone\, has become one of the most striking\nvoices of her generation. Pianist Nduduzo Makhathini\,\ndeeply rooted in spiritual jazz\, completes the ensemble\nalongside double bassist Linda May Han Oh – known for her\nrhythmic finesse – and legendary drummer Jeff “Tain”\nWatts.
