SUMMARY:Joan as Police Woman + José James
LOCATION:AB Flex (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Bruxelles)
DESCRIPTION:An exquisite double bill with none less than JOAN WASSER\nbetter known as JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN and the (relatively\nnew) jazz hope: JOSÉ JAMES. 7:30 pm (sharp!) - José James\n(us) vs Jef Neve'This cast iron debut really does\nsomething to you.' (Humo) 'Aside from being a\nsublime interpreter\, José James is also a gifted writer\nand composer.' (De Standaard) JOSÉ JAMES is barely 30\nbut even so he's immediately been bombarded to 'the\ngreat jazz hope'. He lives in Brooklyn and made quite an\nimpression with his debut 'The Dreamer' - a\ncontemporary mix of jazz\, blues and soul. He cites Billie\nHoliday and John Coltrane as his greatest influences but\nvocally he sounds more like Gil Scott-Heron or Terry\nCallier. His goal? To make jazz for the hip-hop generation.\nIt's not without reason that he reworked the hip-hop\nsong 'Park Bench Life' from the late Freestyle\nFellowship. His visit to Jazz Middelheim didn't go\nunnoticed either. Finally: be there on time\, because José\nJames begins at 7:30 pm sharp! Don't say we didn't\nwarn you. Apparently it 'clicks' between our\nnational jazz-pride annex pianist JEF NEVE and the\n(relatively new) jazz-hoop JOSÉ JAMES. So it came that JEF\nNEVE\, together with his drummer Teun Verbruggen\, will form\nthe backing band during JOSÉ JAMES' autumn visit to\nBelgium and AB on MONDAY 17 NOVEMBER. José James and Jef\nNeve first met for the recording of the radio-programme\n'Neve' on Klara. They later ran into each other a\nnumber of times at foreign festivals where they shared the\nbill. The idea of playing together in AB came about at Jazz\nMiddelheim earlier this year. Be there on time this\nevening\, as the unique quartet will already start at 7:30\npm on the dot (followed by JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN).9:00 pm -\nJoan As Police Woman (us) JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN is still\nsynonymous with Joan Wasser. This immensely honest\nsinger-songstress learned the ropes in the backing bands of\nRufus Wainwright and Antony & The Johnsons (with whom\nshe wrote the fantastic 'I Defy'). Sometimes the\nperfectly arranged piano-pop from the album 'Real\nLife' tends toward jazz and her voice summons\ncomparisons with Dusty Springfield and Chrissie Hynde.\nPersonally she calls her music American Soul Music with a\nsubtle wink to her punk past. In the meantime her much\nappreciated follow-up 'To Survive' has been released\nand we're completely convinced: Joan is a stayer. \nTiming: 7pm doors 7:30pm JOSÉ JAMES 9pm JOAN AS\nPOLICE WOMAN Joan As Police Woman -\nTo Be Loved José James - Park Benc\n\nhttps://www.abconcerts.be/en/agenda/joan-as-police-woman-jose-james/a105J000001wgVMQAY
