SUMMARY:Jarvis
LOCATION:AB Box (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:“Jarvis Cocker is one of our heroes. Because with Pulp he\nmade the chronicle of Britpop: 'Different Class'.\nBecause he stormed the stage of the Brit Awards in '96\,\nwhile Michael Jackson and a dozen children stood warbling\n'Earthsong'. And also because he rhymed 'Your\nname is Deborah' with 'It never suited ya' (in\n'Disco 2000'). (Humo) Or rather\, in a nutshell:\nlife as it is … Jarvis Cocker. The ex-PULP frontman is\nstill the conceiver of classic Britpop-albums like ‘This\nis Hardcore’ and also ‘Different Class’ and author of\nhits like ’Common People’ or ‘Disco 2000’. Jarvis\nCocker has been doing it solo since ’01\, even though it\nwas ’06 before his solo debut of the same name was\nreleased. In the meantime Jarvis remained an interesting and\nbusy bee. Together with Beth Ditto (The Gossip) he covered\nHeaven 17’s ‘Temptation’ at the NME Awards\, could be\nheard on the most recent Air album and was curator of the\nMeltdown Festival in the South Bank Centre\, where he\ninvited the likes of The Jesus And Mary Chain\, Devo and\nMotörhead. He also contributed to the Scott Walker tribute\nin ’08 in London's Barbican (where Gavin Friday and\nDamon Albarn were also present). Jarvis’ second solo-album\nis soon to be released\, it doesn't have a title yet but\nis planned for May. How's it going with that Jarvis?\n“It’s an embryo that's around the fifth or sixth\nmonth. It's got arms\, got eyes\, it's not quite\nready to come out yet\, but getting there". These days\nJarvis gives readings about ‘the art of lyrics’ under\nthe title ’Saying The Unsayable’ whereby he analyses\nlyrics from his own songs and those of The Beatles\, David\nBowie and Leonard Cohen and even had the idea of including\nthese in his shows... We're curious\, certainly after\nhis previous\, extremely successful visit to AB in ’07. \n JARVIS on the Rough Trade 30th\nAnniversary Special \nJARVIS en BETH DITTO (The Gossip) ‘Temptation’
