SUMMARY:Isbells + Marble Sounds
LOCATION:AB Salon - zittend (Steenstraat 11\, 1000 Brussels)
DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm - SOUNDTRACK BY…Herbert 8:30 pm - Marble\nSounds“Marble Sounds was recommended to us using the\nforceful terms 'stunningly beautiful' and\n'Duyster'” (Focus Knack). Reason enough for Focus\nKnack to include them in their ‘2010 Om Te Zien’ chart\nearlier this year. That is quite remarkable as\, aside from\nan EP (‘A Painting And A Spill’) and an impressive\nopening track on the Kath Bloom tribute album ‘Loving\nTakes This Course: A Tribute to the Songs of Kath Bloom’\,\nthere weren't yet many feats to be mentioned. OK\, so\nthey were in the good company of the likes of Devendra\nBanhart\, Bill Callahan\, The Dodos and Josephine Foster\,\nbut it was the Isbells-link that particularly opened the\neyes of the outside world to them. Their fully-fledged debut\n‘Nice Is Good’ was released this spring via Zealrecords\n(again\, see: Isbells). A heavenly album that made quite an\nimpression and that strongly reminds us of the driven\nperfection of The Notwist and also Pinback\, and much more\nfine music that we can't quite put our finger on at the\nmoment. Stronger still? “A superb album. *****” wrote De\nMorgen.9:45 pm - IsbellsDe Morgen appropriately began their\nreview of the untitled Isbells debut with “Is this\nBelgian?”. Then they also threw 4 stars on at the end in\norder to really put Gaëtan Vandewoude's project on the\nmap. Those looking for points of reference quickly arrive at\nNick Drake\, Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes but – and De Morgen\nhit the nail on the head there too – it's as if\nVandewoude discovered this warm melting-pot of styles\nhimself. Half of Belgium was already hanging on Isbells'\nevery word even before this album was released: “The\nBelgian Elliott Smith or Sam Beam (Iron&Wine) has stood\nup to be counted and will win hearts” (Eppo Janssen from\nPukkelpop and Duyster). “New promising Belgian talent\,\nenchanting folk with dreamy and mesmerizing acoustic\nguitars” (HUMO). They were heartrending earlier this year\nat the sold-out Duyster-evening\, now in the most perfect\nsetting imaginable for Isbells: the Feeërieën. \n
