SUMMARY:I Blame Coco
LOCATION:AB Box (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:Here at the end of last year\, in a packed ABClub\, and De\nMorgen was enthusiastic: 'I Blame Coco makes a confident\ndebut in AB-Club ***... vibrant electro-pop... the songs\nhave everything required\, are all afflicted with refrains\nthat stick in your head already after a first listen\, and\nthey also effortlessly stood up to live performance. She\nlooked the audience right in the eye and exuded much more\nself-assurance than most girls her age... plenty of\nsongwriting talent too... that she has sufficient qualities\nto go a long way is perfectly clear from both the first CD\nand this brief visit to the Ancienne Belgique. Soon Coco\nwill no longer be a synonym for Chanel.'Not bad and\, to\nadd to this\, we can only pick up the thread of the existing\nannouncement:'Self Machine' is the irresistible\nsingle by this youthful British talent. I Blame Coco\, as\nthe singer calls her project (full name: Eliot\n'Coco' Paulina Sumner)\, just turned twenty and\,\nyes\, is the daughter of Sting. But she sounds different:\nyounger\, madder\, more 'monolithic\, ethereal &\nrobust' as\, for her debut on Universal ('The\nConstant')\, Coco made a point of embarking with Robyn\nfrom Sweden\, who always guarantees a driving and 'just\nretro enough' sound. Coco may well like to hang out with\nIan Brown\, Pete Dougherty\, Alex Turner or be mad about The\nKillers\, she's clearly also keen on eighties icons like\nDuran Duran and Psychedelic Furs. She stubbornly makes her\nown hit-parade and stage material though: she must have been\nworking on the songs for The Constant since she was fifteen\nbut it was only recently that she veered away from the\nreggae – or ska sounds (à la papa?). So thanks to Robyn\n(and\, by the way\, you'd best write I Blame Coco with\none of those ° on the 'a' of blame.)So things are\nsuddenly moving fast for beautiful Coco: In the Club at the\nend of November and in the Box already in March! Support\nact will be the warmly recommended Washington. Megan\nWashington in full\, an Australian who can do it solo or\,\npreviously\, still at the side of Ben Lee as well as\nbrilliantly with extra many strings during YouTube Play in\nthe Guggenheim museum! After a few EP's\, including that\nexquisite 'How To Tame Lions'\, finally in 2010 her\nfirst 'full CD': 'I Believe You Liar' (also\nvia Universal.) So now\, rightly too\, this spring\nshe'll be heading out on tour with I Blame Coco! \n
