DESCRIPTION:Because tradition just happens to be important: following on\nfrom ‘Live at the Ancienne Belgique’ (from ’05) and\n‘Live at the Ancienne Belgique II’\, here comes – you\nguessed it - ‘Live at the Ancienne Belgique III’!\nIndeed\, at the start of September\, it is once again time\nto make a live-recording of the (in their own words)\nseven-member terror jazz-combo Franco Saint De Bakker.\nFranco Saint – established as the graduation project of\nguitarist Elko Blijweert for the Jazz Studio in Antwerp –\nhas now been around for 10 years this year. Initially\nstarting out as a band that concentrated on jazz standards\nfrom the likes of Charlie Parker\, John Coltrane\, Ornette\nColeman\, Mal Waldron or Sonny Clark\, more and more\npig-headedness\, idiosyncrasy and also own compositions\nseeped into the repertoire. Their interpretations of ‘No\nOne Knows’ (Queens Of The Stone Age) and also ‘Blue\nMonday’ (New Order) have now become classics of a Franco\nshow too. Franco's players also appear to be more\nimpressive than ever\, with the likes of (obviously)\nestablishing member Elko Blijweert (see also: Wim\nVandekeybus\, Tip Toe Topic\, Rudy Trouvé Sextet\,…)\,\nKarel De Backer (Flip Kowlier\, Novastar\,…) Joris\nCaluwaerts (Zita Swoon\,…) and with Rudy Trouvé as\nregular guest. Those who already want to know what ‘Live\nat the Ancienne Belgique III’ - to be released in February\n2010 via Heavenhotel – will sound like: 9 September is the\npre-tasting moment.
