SUMMARY:Daan - extra concert
LOCATION:AB Grote zaal (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:Eat backstage before the concert of Daan to raise\nmoney for MUSIC FOR LIFE More info via this link. \n As usual\, Daan only found the idea of making a new\nalbum interesting if there was a new direction\, an\nadventure\, something he'd never done before. After\nindie\, electro\, rock\, or classic intimacy\, it was time\nto return to his own musical roots. For\n'Simple'\, he went in search of the roots of songs\nfrom his own repertoire. For 'Le Franc Belge' that\nbecame the sounds of his childhood in the '70's. The\nsounds of Paris\, French chanson and 'le cinéma'\,\nbut equally the sound of rattling rock-basements\, epic\nwesterns & smoky nightclubs. 'Le Franc\nBelge' is no nostalgic ode to 'Days Gone By'.\nSongs like ‘Mes Etats Unis’\, the sirtaki- &\nhip-hop-flirting 'La Crise' and the unbridled first\nsingle 'Everglades' sound urgent and tackle\ncontemporary themes but\, as ever\, with a playful and yet\nrebellious twist. The Baroque-pop-y 'The Gates'\,\nand the horse-whinny cheered 'Irrelevant' are\nvintage-Daan\, but then with well orchestrated strings and\nbrilliant brass. Partly in French\, partly in English. \n The lyrics go deeper than ever. The contrast between\nDaan's English lyrics and the French ones he wrote with\nfilmmaker Thierry Dory\, provide sharp contrasts: wild vs\nwise\, heaven vs hell\, child vs man\, man vs woman\,\nfantasy vs fatalism\, love vs lust ... 'Le Franc\nBelge' is not only a surprising\, adventurous logical\nsuccessor to Daan's previous album but more of a\nreaction to it. The acoustic approach of 'Simple'\nnow opens more complex doors. Doors to towering palaces of\nsound and ideas. Never before has a Daan album sounded so\ngrandiose\, epic and self-assured. Isolde Lasoen\n(drums\, percussion and retro-French backings )\,\nJean-François Assy (cello)\, and co-producer Jeroen Swinnen\n(all sorts of keys) received reinforcement from Geoffrey\nBurton (guitar)\, brass led by established name Jo Hermans\,\nJef Neve (piano)\, a string orchestra\, and all that mixed\nwith the crème de la crème of Brussels' jazz scene and\na series of intriguing figures from the Carpathian\nMountains. With ‘Le Franc Belge’\, Daan trots\nthrough 40 years of musical heritage like the love-child of\nLee Marvin and Françoise Hardy\, and adds a frantically\nexciting new chapter to his own musical Tower of Babylon. \n A lively and cool introduction to 'How Not To Get\nBored By Life'.
