Behind the name\nSpookhuisje you will find Raphael Absolonne from Brussels\,\nwho is known for his masterful guitar style and who reports\nbeing influenced by Indian raga grandmasters\, Jimi\nHendrix\, drones and psychedelica. Spookhuisje is also the\nlatest addition to AB-AIR\, or: AB Artist In Residence and\,\nas such\, will be fully supported by us for a year long. His\nfirst feat will then be released toward the end of the\nyear\, on vinyl\, of course. His dream is to have it\nproduced by none less than Stephen O’ Malley from Sunn\nO))). Lastly\, if you Google Spookhuisje then there's a\ngood chance that you end up arriving at Serious Kids\n(recently signalled in dEUS's Vantage Point Studio) and\nTochtgat too\, formations in which Spookhuisje also plays a\nsignificant role. But still. As of now you can sate yourself\non Cold Specks' hypnotic doom soul . We've rarely\nbeen so impressed by a voice as we were by that of Canadian\nblack Al Spx\, or: Cold Specks. Her musical roots go back to\nthe tradition of the Deep South (think: Alan Lomax'\nfield recordings ) spiked with the aura of Bill Callahan and\nTom Waits and the spirituality of Mahalia Jackson. Her band\nname is derived from James Joyce's ‘Ulysses’ (more\nspecifically the sentence “Born all in the dark wormy\nearth\, cold specks of fire\, evil\, lights shining in the\ndarkness.”  Her debut ‘I Predict A Graceful Expulsion’\nis soon to be released\, with the assistance of Rob Ellis\n(cf. Pj Harvey). She has now exchanged Canada's\nEtobicoke for London\, in order to conquer the world from\nthere. ‘Later With Jools’ has already fallen for her\ntalent. May we urge you to do the same?
