SUMMARY:Bitch Magnet
LOCATION:AB Club - staand (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Bruxelles)
DESCRIPTION:Inspirer of Mogwai and contemporary of Slint More than 2\ndecades ago\, Bitch Magnet (singer/bass player Sooyoung\nPark\, guitarist Jon Fine and drummer Orestes Morfin) held\ntheir own in the American post-punk sub-culture. Their debut\nEP ‘Star Booty’ and the albums ‘Umber’ (that was\nMojo Magazine later included in the illustrious list of Lost\nAlbums You Must Own) and ‘Ben Hur’ are milestones in the\nAmerican underground guitar scene. Battles - who have the\nhonour of putting together the All Tomorrow’s Parties\nedition in December - managed to convince Bitch Magnet to\nrevive from their eternal sleep. Plans were immediately made\nto release a box containing their 3 CDs and previously\nunissued work (out in December on Temporary Residence\, the\nhome of Mono\, Explosions In The Sky and Grails). After the\nband's split in 1990\, Park continued under the name\nSeam and Fine was briefly to be found in the line-up of Don\nCaballero. Together with their contemporaries\, Slint\,\nBitch Magnet was considered to be one of the most important\ninfluences for bands like Mogwai and June or 44. ‘Probably\nmore than any other band\, Bitch Magnet sent me in the\ndirection I took with the music I have tried to make.’\n(Ian Williams - Battles)‘Inbetween the US noise wave of\nSonic Youth and the initial stirrings of grunge....Umber\nstands a mile high above most of its kin’.
