SUMMARY:Beach House + Caribou
LOCATION:AB Grote zaal (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:Toutpartout will be organizing the first edition of the\nAutumn Falls festival during the weekend of November 26\, 27\nand 28 2010.Toutpartout is a European booking agency/Benelux\npromoter\, booking tours and shows in venues all over\nEurope. BEACH HOUSE Sometimes a year in pop has its\nown rightful owner. And in 2010 the owner is none less than\nBaltimore’s own indie dream pop duo Beach House. The words\nof praise coming from Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold (with\nwhom they toured in 2009) initiated a true buzz. But with\nthe release of their third album ‘Teen Dream’ and the\ninternational critical claim that went with it they\nvirtually effortlessly met everyone’s expectations. How\nabout live? Well\, in Europe they captivated audience by\naudience during a sell out release club tour which earned\nthem supports for among others Grizzly Bear and Vampire\nWeekend and spots on the biggest European summer festivals.\nIn a nutshell this is how in 2010 Beach House – founded in\n2006 – suddenly got cool\, hip and even hyped. But for\nthis one time it is truly deserved. Under layers of synths\,\norgans and reverb guitars stand out perfectly crafted pop\nsongs with touching lyrics and catchy choruses. Add to that\ncharismatic front lady Victoria Legrand’s painstakingly\nbeautiful vocals and the inventive guitar and synth parts of\nAlex Legrand and you’re going from hype to keeper. Beach\nHouse is going to be a keeper and you will be able to\nwitness why. CARIBOU Here’s a fact. It is hard these\ndays not go wild over\nmulti-instrumentalist-producer-songwriter-singer-arranger-composer\nDan Snaith a.k.a. Caribou\, a.k.a. the late Manitoba – up\nuntil he was sued by Handsome Dick Manitoba (front man of\nAmerican punk bank The Dictators) for using the same name.\nWhat’s in a name\, right? Either way\, under the moniker\nCARIBOU Snaith has already released several albums that most\nnotably balance between shoegaze\, krautrock and sixties\npsych pop. On his latest effort ‘Swim’ (rated 8.4 by\nPitchfork) Snaith wanted to record dance music “that\nsounds like it’s made out of water rather than made out of\nmetallic stuff like most dance music does”. Organic dance\nin other words. Among his fans are The Flaming Lips (who\ninvited Caribou to New York when they were curators of All\nTomorrow’s Parties) and Canada (yes\, the country)\, where\nCaribou received the prestigious Polaris Music Prize (the\nequivalent of the British Mercury Music Prize). On stage\nCaribou will be performing as a four piece. JUNIP feat.\nJOSÉ GONZÁLEZ If we could ask one thing: please\ndon’t see Junip as a José González’ side project.\nSure\, this band includes the Swedish singer-songwriter’s\nmesmerizing trademark voice and guitar picking but boy is it\neven more than that. Junip - including childhood friend\nElias Araya on drums and Tobias Winterkorn on keyboards -\nactually formed long before González’ first solo album\ncame out. Unfortunately\, due to the songwriter’s\nextensive touring their plans for recording a debut album\nwere continuously put on the shelf. In 2010 “Fields”\nfinally came out\, an album made by passionate and patient\npeople meticulously giving every note\, every sound and\nevery word its rightful place. Live they’re a four piece\nand they take you on an adventurous trip from the first to\nthe final note. So\, if we could ask just one more thing:\nwhatever you do\, please do not miss this. SLEEPY SUN \nWith their hearts\, minds and even clothing style fully\ndrenched into seventies psychedelic rock California’s\nSleepy Sun just can’t help but being who they are and\nplaying what they play. Audiences all over picked up on this\nas they did on the six-piece’s intense live performances\,\ncentered around vintage guitar sounds and the beautifully\nhaunting harmonies of Bret Constantino and Rachel Fannan.\nDespite their two strong ATP releases ‘Embrace’ and\n‘Fever’ and a collaboration with hip English electronic\ncollective U.N.K.L.E\, it’s still primarily the strength\nof their live shows that keeps stirring critics as well as\ngranting them prestigious opening slots for the likes of\nArctic Monkeys\, Mudhoney and Autolux. People who saw the\nband at this year’s Pukkelpop festival definitely know\nwhat we’re talking about. \n \n
