SUMMARY:Asian Dub Foundation
LOCATION:AB Grote zaal (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:Warning: Smoking Ban inspection during Asian Dun\nFoundation on Sunday 17 April 2011Since 1 January 2006 it\nhas no longer been permitted to smoke in public places\, so\nnot in AB either. After consultation between AB and the\nFederal Department of Public Health\, Food-Chain Safety and\nthe Environment\, there will be a number of inspections\ncarried out in the AB over the coming months by the Public\nHealth department. The next inspection will be on the during\nthe Asian Dub Concert on Sunday April 17th 2011. \nDancehall\, dub beats\, ragga and punk-rock combined with\nsocially engaged lyrics: the multicultural Asian Dub\nFoundation returns in 2011. New album ‘A History Of\nNow’\, released in early February\, shows an ADF in fine\nform. Lyrically\, just as relevant and\, musically\, a\nmelting-pot containing many years of British & Indian\npolitical history. Steve Chandra Savale is one of the\nmainstays of the band and so also proudly reports that ‘in\nthe 16 years of the band we have lived through a lot of\nchange\, how we make music\, how we relate to people\,\nwe're completely transformed and this is a good way to\nmark that artistically’. The recordings took place in the\nLynchmob Studios of Primal Scream- & Paul\nWeller-producer Brendan Lynch and was produced by Sanjay\nTaylor and the aforementioned Steve Chandra Savale. The\nvideo for the first single was directed by Jimmy Cauty\, who\nwe still know from the KLF.AB has a long relationship with\nAsian Dub Foundation: this concert will be their fifth in\nAB. Including in 2003 when they were here for a live\nperformance of their soundtrack to the Mathieu Kassovitz\nfilm ‘La Haine’. 'Live Life' is the\nimpressive debut by Brussels' singer-songwriter Maëlan\nthat was recently hailed “album of the week” on FM\nBrussel. Having grown up in a multi-cultural environment\,\nit was there that he absorbed his favourite genres\, such as\nAfrican music\, grime\, dubstep\, reggae and hip-hop. After\nhaving lived in England for a while\, Maëlan returned to\nBrussels where he began working as MC with Grimelock. That\nsame Grimelock also made a contribution to Maëlan's\ndebut\, just as the omnipresent Omar Perry. With the\nsupport of
