But she\ncontinued under her own fine name after the CD 'La Vida\nTe Da' in 2006\, and the live recording 'Seguiré\nCaminando' of 2008. Less 'mestizo' and\, as a\nresult\, even more inspired by her great idols Billie\nHoliday\, Chavela Vargas\, Nina Simone... At least\nthat's the way this engaging Spanish songstress sounds\non the new CD 'Tucson-Habana' (via\nPias).'Tucson-Habana' is bursting with warmly\nglowing songs that sometimes refer more to Arizona and at\nother times more to Cuba. We're talking about recordings\nwith John and Joey from Calexico in both cases: first cosy\nin their favourite Wavelab studio\, later with the entire\nteam to the legendary Egrem studio in La Havana (see also:\nBuena Vista Social Club!)It's now become even more\ndifficult to catalogue the ever-enthused Amparo Sanchez –\nmaybe the world-chanson section is best? Still with that\nexquisitely sensational singing voice\, which at the same\ntime doesn't mince words. She was a guest at the\nglorious AB Calexico concert in October 2008.
